With the convenience of smart phones and betting apps, gambling is now accessible at the tap of a screen, and we are seeing that teenagers and young adults are increasingly at risk as “the first generation to be exposed to the saturation of online betting products” as articulated by the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation.
As part of our continued focus on problem gambling, BaptistCare Counselling and Family Services acknowledged Responsible Gambling Awareness Week in September 2019, holding an event with The Hon. Matt Thistlethwaite MP, Member for Kingsford Smith at our Bondi Junction location. The event saw guests hear about the free services we offer for people experiencing problem gambling and their impacted family and friends.
A second community event was also held in Woolloomooloo, where the local community were invited to hear from one of our counsellors as well as a talk from a former client who received counselling and support, and a local community member discussing gambling and homelessness.
BaptistCare Counselling & Family Services - Gambling Help is a free and confidential counselling service, funded by the NSW Government Responsible Gambling Fund. Our professional and qualified counsellors come alongside people and work with them to change their gambling behaviours and make positive lifestyle choices, through evidence-based and best practice counselling and treatment. Family and friends are also offered support.
