HopeStreet - Mayfield is a welcoming place for people living with disadvantage in the local community, where they can find hope and support every day.

Whether it be a healthy meal when it is needed most, an opportunity to shower and wash clothes, having someone to sit and talk to and share thoughts, feelings and worries, or addressing key issues including social and financial exclusion, mental health challenges, drug and alcohol dependence and housing needs - providing hope is the lifeblood of what we do.

Living a life with issues that many people don’t understand or have preconceptions about can leave people feeling isolated. It is at Mayfield that friendships are formed and people feel valued and welcomed in to a community that understands them.

We admit that we can’t fix the world. But we can do something and that something is to provide hope to people who need it.

Newcastle Street Outreach Service
BaptistCare provides a street-based outreach service, which provides practical care and support to vulnerable people in the inner city of Newcastle, including the homeless, the hungry and socially isolated people. The service operates a street van providing free meals, tea and coffee, cold drinks, clothing, blankets, referral and advocacy services. The service also operates a Saturday night BBQ in the Newcastle CBD, which engages and feeds people on the streets or people struggling with food security. The service acts as a key referral point to the BaptistCare Community Outreach Team.
Community Outreach Team
BaptistCare's Community Outreach Team is focused on reducing homelessness in Newcastle. The Outreach Team serves as part of the innovative Reaching Home service, which has been established in Newcastle under the NSW Homelessness Action Plan. Partners in the Reaching Home service are Housing NSW (HNSW), Legal Aid NSW, Hunter New England Health and BaptistCare. The Outreach Team has staff on the streets of Newcastle 5 days a week supporting the city’s most vulnerable rough sleeps and homeless people into emergency accommodation with HNSW support. The service enables clients access to relevant health, legal and other support services, with ongoing case work towards the goal of securing them long-term sustainable housing.
