At BaptistCare, we understand that music can have a profound effect, and can help evoke memories and emotions. That is why, in our Residential Services, we use personalised music playlists to improve quality of life, wellbeing and mood for people living with dementia.
Can you remember music from a special time in your life? Maybe from a wedding or special celebration, or perhaps your favourite band when you were in your teens and early twenties? When you remember these songs, what does it do for you? Does it take you back there and help you remember events of that time? Recent documentaries and research are showing the benefits of music for people living with dementia – and not just any music – individualised playlists.
This program offers residents the chance to enjoy individualised music playlists on portable music devices, using either headphones or a portable speaker. Around 10 calming and 10 mood lifting songs that are personally meaningful for the resident will be made available.
Residents will be regularly assisted to access their music by care and lifestyle staff. Family, friends and volunteers may also assist the resident to enjoy their music.
“It’s great to see this not only on a TV show but actually being implemented and benefitting people like my mum here” - Michelle, Family of BaptistCare Resident
