Since the beginning, BaptistCare has been guided by members of the Baptist family of churches.
This grassroots governance structure has ensured our Christian origins are at the core of our ethos and purpose in transforming lives by expressing the love of Christ.
The Board of Directors recognises that chief among its responsibilities is to ensure best practice corporate governance and that this is essential to foster and maintain public trust and confidence in BaptistCare. To achieve this, the Board and its sub-committees conduct regular reviews of the policies and procedures that articulate our corporate governance responsibilities.
All churches affiliated with the Association of Baptist Churches of NSW & ACT are eligible to have a representative appointed as a member of the BaptistCare company. Individual members of Baptist Churches affiliated to the Association of Baptist Churches of NSW & ACT are also eligible to apply for company membership. Similarly members the Assembly Council of the Association of Baptist Churches of NSW & ACT are eligible for membership. There are also some other special membership categories, which include Honorary Life Membership.
The Directors of our parent Board are either elected or appointed in accordance with the requirements of the Constitution of BaptistCare. Since 2023, following our merger with BaptistCare in Western Australia, this includes up to three "WA Appointed Directors". A copy of our Constitution can be found here.
The Board of Directors is responsible for ensuring that BaptistCare strives for best practice in corporate governance. It does this through periodic reviews of its governance framework and its corporate policies and procedures, which address a range of topics as diverse as advocacy, modern slavery, workplace diversity, care and clinical governance, privacy and whistleblowing among many others. In addition, BaptistCare’s Board is committed to meeting the governance standards prescribed by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Regulation 2022 (Cth), and other applicable standards prescribed by other legislation such as the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).
The Board of Directors strives to fulfil its duties in a collegiate manner while encouraging a diverse range of viewpoints. The Board aims to provide strategic leadership that empowers management to fulfil BaptistCare’s Purpose, Vision and Values in line with our Promise: Because we care.
