Our team at Willandra Village, in Sydney’s Macquarie Park, have worked tirelessly during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure our residents remained safe and well during the health crisis.
As public health orders in NSW required people to remain at home, our team were committed to ensuring residents were recreationally and spiritually cared for, understanding just how isolating the experience would be for many residents.
Our staff doorknocked and had regular phone conversations to check in on our residents, and received a great response during these interactions.
In April 2020, our Activities Coordinator initiated a Village Art Competition and Exhibition in the village’s newly refurbished Lower Hall. Residents participated enthusiastically, creating works of art in their homes and entering their artworks in one, two or even three categories including photography, creative writing, quilting, colouring and craft.
“The response from our residents was uplifting and encouraging. The event was well attended, born out of a response to COVID-19, and the residents enjoyed it so much that it will now be an annual event,” said Ami Trivedi, BaptistCare Willandra Village Manager.
The winners and the highly commended were invited to a small and COVID-safe award ceremony to acknowledge their work.
