BaptistCare Aminya Retirement Village resident celebrates his 100th birthday!

BaptistCare Aminya Retirement Village recently hosted a birthday lunch for resident Jack Weller for his milestone 100th birthday.

There was a giant celebratory birthday cake, birthday cards and of course the requisite singing of “Happy Birthday!” Jack was delighted to be joined by his family, as well as staff and residents at the Village for the celebration.

“Jack is a much-loved resident here at Aminya Retirement Village,” said Dianne Olson, Village Manager.

Jack made the decision to downsize from his suburban four-bedroom family home in Merrylands over 25 years ago, purchasing a unit at BaptistCare Aminya Retirement Village where he’s been living ever since.

Jack has lived a full and interesting life. Leaving school at the age of 14, Jack’s first job was as a ‘messenger boy’ for the New South Wales State Department of Agriculture where he ran errands and delivered newspapers across Sydney’s CBD. Sadly, his father passed away that same year, when Jack was just 14. Jack studied at Petersham Continuation School at night during this time to finish his schooling and to ensure better career prospects for himself.

These days, Jack enjoys keeping in touch with his lawn bowls friends and socialising with the many friends he has made at Aminya Retirement Village. While he still has his full driver’s licence, he loves to take advantage of the local bus routes to the city or around Baulkham Hills.

With two children (a son and a daughter), three grandsons, a granddaughter plus nieces and nephews scattered around Adelaide and Brisbane, Jack also makes sure he keeps in touch regularly with all his family.

When asked what the best decade of his life would be and why, Jack said:

“Definitely my 30s. This was a time I enjoyed thoroughly – when I was married and I was playing golf and enjoying each and every moment.”

“It sounds cliché, but the keys to stamina and living a long life are what the experts always say – having strong social ties, keeping active and staying generally engaged in life,” Jack continued.

“Life is definitely what you make it!”

We wish you a very happy 100th birthday Jack, with many more birthdays to come!
