BaptistCare, a leading provider of aged care and community services, has continued its investment in green energy and a just transition for vulnerable Australians by entering into its second Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
Building on a successful partnership with Flow Energy for NSW and ACT, BaptistCare is excited to link its energy use in Western Australia to renewable energy through a PPA agreement with Alinta Energy.
Working with Alinta Energy, this PPA enables BaptistCare to continue to deliver quality, person-centered care across Western Australia in a more environmentally friendly way.
“Soon after seeing the positive impact of our NSW and ACT Power Purchase Agreement, we started looking at options for our operations in Western Australia,” said Charles Moore, CEO of BaptistCare.
Our WA PPA will purchase around 4GWh each year and see us reduce our scope 2 carbon footprint in WA by nearly 100% through the procurement of Large Generation Certificates from the Yandin Wind Farm.”
The WA PPA, along with the agreement in NSW and the ACT, will play a key role in the organisation’s roadmap to become net zero by 2050 - or before.
“At BaptistCare, we care for some of the most vulnerable people in our communities and we take our role seriously in ensuring they are not left behind in the energy transition,” said Thomas Griffiths, Head of Strategy and Investments for BaptistCare.
“Our PPAs, paired with other initiatives, are one part of our commitment to caring for people, planet and the community. We are proud to help lead the aged care and community’s sectors towards a just transition to renewable energy.”
Alinta Energy says this arrangement shows how aged care and community services providers can help those they care for to also be a part of the transition to renewable energy.
“We’re really proud to partner with BaptistCare and support them as part of their consideration of renewable energy solutions,” said Chris Campbell, Executive Director, Retail Markets at Alinta Energy.
“This partnership is a great example of how we are able to support organisations like BaptistCare to access more affordable energy, and have a part in working towards their sustainability goals while continuing to deliver their services to clients."
The partnership between BaptistCare and Alinta Energy offers a practical leadership example of collaboration to build resilient and climate-friendly care, and ensures vulnerable communities and people, such as seniors, are included in the transition to a renewable society.
BaptistCare is excited for what this partnership with Alinta Energy means for clients in the future and are committed to continuously looking for new ways to bring sustainability into the work they do across the aged and community care sector.
