It was a celebration of community and quality care at the official opening of the new BaptistCare At Home hub in Griffith, NSW.
BaptistCare At Home team members, clients and their families, and the Griffith community gathered to share stories, cake, and a special pasta-making class, showcasing the social element of the care provided by the local team.
The new BaptistCare Griffith At Home hub is part of the BaptistCare strategy to address changing customer demands, the growing ageing population in the Riverina, and the need for services in regional and remote areas of NSW.
It will be a space for the team of local employees, including administration, care facilitation and care workers, to provide care for older people in the local area.
BaptistCare Home Care clients and staff gathered today at the new office for the official opening.
Nicole Tetley, acting Manager of BaptistCare At Home Griffith, said the office will enable the team to care for more people across the community.
“We are rapidly expanding and are excited about how many more people we’ll be able to work with and care for in areas like Hay,” she said.
“We’re growing our local team so that we can provide that specialised, personalised care for clients new and existing.”
“Our team has incredible heart and a passion for ensuring people can live well in their homes and their communities, keeping them connected to family, memories and age gracefully and with respect.”
Karen French attended the event with her partner Ugo, a BaptistCare At Home client in Griffith. She said that for a long time she refused to access help to care for Ugo, but she’s so glad she did.
“I’m very, very grateful for the BaptistCare Home Care team,” she said.
“It’s still not easy for me to ask for help, but the staff have become family and I couldn’t imagine life without them coming across the week.”
With support for the BaptistCare Home Care team, Karen and Ugo have been able to modify their bathroom and access equipment like an electric bed and Ugo’s wheelchair.
Karen said this, and regular visits helping to care for Ugo, have taken a weight off her shoulders and kept Ugo in good spirits.
“After 24 years of health challenges, he still smiles every day,” Karen said.
“A number of friends recommended BaptistCare to us, and I wish I had reached out sooner.”
At the opening, clients learnt how to make Pasta from scratch. As they sat together, asking questions of the chef and fine-tuning their favourite recipes, it was clear that the new hub would be a place for clients and the community to gather.
In addition to home care in Griffith, BaptistCare operates several other services across the region. This includes BaptistCare Towner House overnight care in Wagga Wagga, our BaptistCare Social Clubs in Griffith, Cootamundra, Wagga Wagga and Leeton, BaptistCare Caloola Aged Care Home, and BaptistCare The Grand and BaptistCare Watermark retirement villages.
