Baptistcare has announced it will focus on growing its services in the aged care sector in Western Australia.

After a comprehensive, strategic review process, Baptistcare has announced it will focus on growing its services in the aged care sector in Western Australia.

Chief Executive Officer, Russell Bricknell, said the organisation aims to build on its position as a leading provider of residential care, at home services and retirement living to meet the increasing needs of the State’s ageing population.

In line with this new direction, Baptistcare intends to transition out of Disability Services during 2018.

The organisation currently provides disability support services for 87 customers across Western Australia.

Mr Bricknell said while nothing will happen immediately, the Board and Executive Leadership Team, wanted to communicate the new focus to Disability Services’ customers and their families, and staff to give everyone plenty of time to understand the impact of the change.

“Over the coming months, we will work individually with each Disability Services’ customer and their family to ensure they have information about the range of alternative service providers available in Western Australia.

“We will continue to provide them with the high level of care and support they have always had from Baptistcare while they take the time they need to make an informed decision about a new service provider,” he said.

“We are committed to assisting each customer to transition to a service provider that best meets their individual needs and circumstances.

Mr Bricknell said there will be no immediate changes to the roles or rosters of Baptistcare staff who work in Disability Services.

“We expect that some of our Disability Services customers will want their current support worker to transition with them to a new provider and we will of course support employees to do this if that is what they want,” he said.

“Employees may want to apply for alternate positions in Baptistcare or with other providers, and we will support and encourage them through the process.

“We are a people-focussed organisation so as we move forward our efforts will be on ensuring our customers and their families, and our Disability Services’ employees, are the priority.”

Mr Bricknell said there will be no changes to Baptistcare’s residential aged care, at home services or retirement living and the organisation was well placed to expand its Western Australian footprint over the next few years.
