Former Royal Australian Regiment soldier Timothy D’Arcy (85) lined up to join the fight against COVID-19 on Wednesday, 3 March 2021.

Living at Baptistcare Bethel Residential Aged Care in Albany, Mr D’Arcy was among the first seniors in the Great Southern region to roll up his sleeve for the Pfizer vaccine.

The former ‘gunner’ said he had many jabs during his active service in Malaysia from 1955 to 1957 and had faith then and now that the Australian Government’s vaccine program was to keep people safe and protected.

“If we want our country and our world to go back to normal we all need to step up and get vaccinated against COVID-19,” said Mr D’Arcy.

Baptistcare CEO Russell Bricknell said the leading aged care provider was experiencing high rates of requests for the vaccine across its 12 residential care facilities.

“It is pleasing to see so many residents wanting to receive the jabs as soon as they have become available,” he said.

“Facilitating the rollout of the vaccines on-site at our facilities is another way we can keep the people in our care safe and healthy.”

Baptistcare Bethel resident Stephanie Bell (92) also received her jab on the same day.
