When it comes to devoted fans of Australian hard rock band Wolfmother, look no further than Baptistcare Moonya Residential Care’s Majorie (Marge) Mason.

A Manjimup resident has celebrated her 103rd birthday in a unique way after receiving a birthday message from Australian rock group Wolfmother’s lead singer Andrew Stockdale.

Marge Mason turned 103 years old on April 13 at Manjimup’s Baptistcare Moonya Residential Care. She was treated to an extraordinary birthday gift after receiving warm birthday wishes from the iconic Australian rock singer.

Wolfmother is an Australian rock group formed in Sydney in 2004 and is known for hard rock, heavy metal and neo-psychedelia music.

Dubbed the “oldest fan” of the group by Stockdale himself, Ms Mason first came into contact with the group in her 80s, and despite being born deaf, she has been able to enjoy the music through vibrations.

Daughter Margaret Stranaghan said Ms Mason had initially discovered the group while watching the popular music show Rage, and she quickly became enamoured by the music.

“Mum was in her 80s when she faxed us one day to ask us to buy her a Wolfmother CD,” she said.

“Apparently, she discovered them while watching Rage and loved playing their music at a top volume even though her neighbours didn’t quite share her passion for the band.”

Ms Stranaghan said her mother never let her disability stunt her ability to enjoy life with her husband of 51 years, which spoke volumes about her character.

“Dad passed away in 1997, but they had a wonderful life together gardening, exploring the outdoors and travelling around in a camper van they bought,” she said.

The Wolfmother frontman included in his birthday wishes a congratulations to the great grandmother and a warm thanks for supporting the group.

“I am glad you’re feeling the vibrations from Wolfmother, and congratulations on being our oldest fan,” he said.

Moonya Residential Care manager Nicolle Warren said when she and the rest of the team had found out Ms Mason’s love of the hard rock group, they decided they would try their hardest to get the video message from Stockdale for the hardcore fan.

“Most centenarians love getting a message from the Queen, but we thought it was only fitting Marge received something out of the ordinary for this milestone birthday,” she said.
