During National Reconciliation Week in South Australia, the WestCare Centre – a safe place where people from all walks of life are welcome – held a community barbecue to celebrate our shared histories, cultures, and achievements.
This year’s theme, ‘Bridging Now to Next,’ came to life in the most meaningful way. The event brought together clients, staff, volunteers, and members of the community in a powerful show of connection and solidarity.
The courtyard was filled with warmth as guests mingled over fresh donuts and chatted with representatives from the South Australian Cricket Association, all set to the soulful music of local musician Les Sumner.
Inside the chapel, Flinders University social work students led arts and crafts activities, offering a creative outlet for those feeling inspired, and a local artist provided henna to help attendees commemorate the day.
Coffee was served by participants of the ‘Bean Buggy’ initiative where young people from our Flexible Learning Options (FLO) program can hone their barista and customer service skills as part of their journey toward employment.
No community BBQ would be complete without a hearty lunch. The WestCare Centre kitchen, with help from the team at Studio Nine Architects, served up a delicious feast that brought everyone together around shared conversation.
This special day was only made possible by the generosity, spirit, and support of so many. Thank you to our staff, volunteers, community partners, and to everyone who attended with open hearts and minds.
