Baptistcare is expanding its regional Western Australian footprint with the purchase of the Kalkarni residential aged care facility in the Wheatbelt town of Brookton.

The leading aged care provider has been managing Kalkarni Residential Aged Care (Kalkarni Residency) on behalf of the Shire of Brookton since 2008 and will assume ownership of the facility early in 2020.

Established following the closure of the Brookton Nursing Home and Nursing Post, Kalkarni is co-located with the Saddleback Health Centre creating a central health and aged care hub for the Wheatbelt region.

Set among beautiful landscaped gardens and natural bushland, Kalkarni Residency offers all levels of residential care including a dementia specific care unit within a contemporary living environment.

Chief Executive Officer, Russell Bricknell, said Baptistcare was proud to have managed a residential aged care facility that has been recognised as an innovative model for delivering aged care and health services to small rural communities.

“We’ve developed a close bond with the residents who call Kalkarni home and the dedicated team who go above and beyond to provide quality aged care, so it was a natural progression for us to take ownership when the opportunity became available.

“While the ownership transition will be seamless for residents and employees, it’s an important milestone in Baptistcare’s evolution as a leading aged care provider in Western Australia,” he said.

Shire of Brookton Chief Executive Officer, Ian D’Arcy, said the sale of Kalkarni Residency followed extensive community consultation and recognition of the broader benefits of the facility being owned as well as operated by an aged care expert.

“Many people living in country towns don’t have access to local residential aged care and have to move away from friends and family for the care and support they need,” said Mr D’Arcy.

“It is pleasing to know the Brookton community will continue to have its aged care needs met locally by one of the State’s largest, not-for-profit providers.”

Mr Bricknell said Baptistcare will keep all residents and their families updated on the ownership transition.

“However it’s business as usual for our team as they deliver quality, personalised care for the residents who allow us to share their home at Kalkarni,” he said.
