The 2025 Sydney Chain Reaction Challenge, an epic 7-day, 1000km ride across New Zealand’s spectacular North Island, has come to a triumphant end. Our team powered through their final ride of 160km around stunning Lake Taupo, demonstrating remarkable endurance and spirit.
Over the course of seven days, our riders embarked on a remarkable journey that tested their endurance, spirit, and determination. Each day brought new challenges and stunning landscapes, from rolling hills and lush forests to serene lakes and vibrant towns. The final day began at dawn, with cyclists eager to tackle the last leg. The rolling hills around Lake Taupo tested their stamina, but the breathtaking views made every climb worthwhile. With determination and resilience, our riders completed the full lake loop, passing iconic landmarks such as the Tongariro Domain and the vibrant Lake Taupo lakefront, finishing strong back in Taupo town.
It was a powerful week of adventure, resilience, and community, made unforgettable by the unwavering spirit of the riders and the dedication of their support crew. We couldn’t be prouder of our riders and the entire Chain Reaction Challenge community—an inspiring group of generous, determined individuals committed to creating a lasting impact on the lives of children, including those supported by our own BaptistCare HopeStreet.
This year, the riders smashed last year’s total, raising an astounding $1.2 million to date, with the BaptistCare HopeStreet team contributing nearly $268,000. These funds will go towards supporting children through BaptistCare HopeStreet and So They Can.
Team Captain Greg Bain reflected on the journey, noting the immense challenges faced by the riders. "Cycling through the breathtaking landscapes of the North Island of New Zealand was a physical challenge that delivered immense emotional rewards. This year, more than any other, I’ve come away from the Chain Reaction ride with a profound sense of humility. I was deeply humbled by the incredible crew that took care of us, the awe-inspiring scenery we rode through, and most of all, the 48 other riders who united behind the fundraising drive to ensure our charity partners could continue to care for kids in need. To the riders and all those who gave so generously, thank you."
A massive thank you goes out to every cyclist, sponsor, support crew member, donor, and supporter who made this incredible achievement possible. Your efforts and generosity are changing lives and making a significant difference in our communities.
As we reflect on this monumental journey, we celebrate not just the kilometres ridden, but the hope, unity, and positive change generated along the way. Here's to the unstoppable spirit of the riders and to every hand that helped make the 2025 Chain Reaction Challenge an epic ride to change lives.
