BaptistCare Dorothy Henderson Lodge celebrates its 30th anniversary!

BaptistCare Dorothy Henderson Lodge celebrated its 30th anniversary in February.

Located in Macquarie Park, the aged care home has grown exponentially over the years since opening in 1993 with now more than 80 residents living at the home.

The residents and staff marked this significant milestone by cutting a giant chocolate celebratory cake. The cake was cut by residents Cathy, (who was a former Recreational Activities Officer and volunteer at the home), and Arthur (whose wife was the first Residential Manager of the home).

“I am so proud to be a part of the history of Dorothy Henderson Lodge. It’s been wonderful to see the home grow and thrive,” said Nisha Khanal, Residential Manager.

BaptistCare Dorothy Henderson Lodge was named after the late Dorothy Henderson, a recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). As a volunteer for the Baptist Homes Trust Council for many decades, Dorothy assisted to establish at least 21 homes with her fellow volunteers, working to source homes for the frail, aged and at risk.

The group worked tirelessly on each of the homes - finding and inspecting land, liaising with architects and builders, helping with selecting curtains and bedspreads, as well as sourcing soft furnishings.

Dorothy’s contribution was later recognised with an OAM for her more than 50 years of outstanding voluntary service, and in having the home named after her.
