BaptistCare is future-proofing housing for seniors in Western Sydney with final approval granted for the construction of its Carlingford Seniors Living Village.
The Village will feature approximately 130 independent living units for retirees, 96 aged care rooms and a respite facility for local families caring for loved ones at home.
Built on a historic and important site for BaptistCare, on the location where its first aged care home, Yallambi Elderly Ladies Home, was established in 1952, the Carlingford Seniors Village will provide innovative, industry-leading care and accommodation for older Australians.
“With this final approval from the NSW Independent Planning Commission, we can get on with the job of filling the need for seniors housing and aged care in the Carlingford community,” said Charles Moore, CEO BaptistCare.
“We are acutely aware of the housing pressures in the community, and the importance for people as they age to be able to stay in the community they know and love.”
“Carlingford Seniors Village will make this possible, offering a vibrant community where residents can enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle, with opportunities for relaxation, connection, engagement and quality care not only for them but for the entire Parramatta region,” Charles said.
Currently, there’s considerable focus on the future of aged care in Australia as the new Act moves through the parliamentary process and the Aged Care Taskforce report and recommendations open up strong avenues of conversation encompassing aged care and the housing squeeze.
“The Aged Care Taskforce recommendations have made new aged care developments, like Carlingford Seniors Village, more viable,” said Charles Moore.
“Creating seniors specific housing, independent and supported, is an essential part of the wider conversation about housing pressures in our community and what people-first solutions look like.”
The design of the Carlingford Seniors Village will include BaptistCare’s innovative household model, mirroring a home-like environment for residents in aged care and a vibrant community for residents who live independently.
The Village will sit next to BaptistCare Gimbawali Place, social and affordable apartments for seniors and single-parent families, which was completed in 2023. The sites will come together, along with the wider Carlingford community, through shared green spaces, outdoor seating and a café.
“We know residents in the local area will benefit from and enjoy more green and open space, so BaptistCare is really excited to share these spaces on our site with the local community,” said Joshua Brandon, Senior Development Manager of Property with BaptistCare.
“The Carlingford Seniors Village is an important part of our property portfolio. It closely aligns to the range of services delivered by BaptistCare to seniors and families right across Sydney’s north-west.”
“The shared spaces within this development, paired with existing services, will allow integration and connection between our aged care, housing and community services across the local region. It will harness the strong sense of community already alive in Carlingford,” Joshua said.
With final approval in place, BaptistCare can now shift focus from the planning to the construction phase and are excited to bring the Carlingford Seniors Living Village to life.
“As we celebrate our 80th year of providing care, to be back on the site where it all began providing the next generation in seniors housing and care for the Carlingford community is really special,” said Charles Moore.
“I’m excited to see the village take shape and for us to welcome residents to their new home very soon.”
Construction is anticipated to start in 2025, and reflecting the site's intricacies, completion will be within three years of commencement.
As the project proceeds to the construction phase, BaptistCare looks forward to continuing its legacy of transforming lives and providing excellence in care and retirement living at the Carlingford site, a beacon of support and community for over 80 years.
