It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of a former BaptistCare board member, Barbara Jones, who passed away on Tuesday 24 December, 2019.

Barbara migrated to Australia from England and joined the Baptist Homes Trust Ladies’ Auxiliary in 1955 in her adopted homeland, as a way to meet people and help others. Within months she was serving Christmas lunch to residents of Yallambi Elderly Ladies’ Home, and four years later was the deputy president of the Ladies’ Auxiliary central executive and president of the recently formed Ladies’ Auxiliary northern branch.

Barbara’s dedication and years of service cannot be downplayed as she was involved on so many levels from working as a volunteer in the Willandra Village kiosk for a time restocking shelves, to investing her expertise into other areas like being a member of the Finance Committee, a chair of the aged care services committee, chair of the community ministries advisory committee, and a founding member of the Social Welfare Committee, serving from 1971-1984.

In 1995, Barbara was invited to become a founding member of Baptist Community Services Foundation, a position she held until retiring in December 1999.

During her 44 years of outstanding service to the Ladies’ Auxiliary and 37 years on the council and board, Barbara dedicated herself to the welfare of others, displaying an absolute commitment to the provision of high-quality care for residents and clients. In recognition of this service, she was awarded Honorary Life Membership on 22 November 1999.

On 26 January, 2010 Barbara was awarded the medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to aged welfare.

We are thankful for Barbara’s dedication in serving others, and send our condolences to her family. May she rest in peace.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time."
– 1 Peter 1:3-5 (NIV)
