Jean Prince, a resident at BaptistCare Shalom Centre celebrated 105 years on Friday 23 October. Our Shalom staff, along with some of her family, held a little party for her with flowers and a cake.

Born on October 23, 1915 in Newtown, Jean had one brother and says her clearest childhood memory is, “walking to Newtown Primary school”.

Jean told us that the best day of her life so far is when she married her husband, Bert, in 1942: “My marriage to Bert was at the Dulwich Methodist Church then Marrickville Town Hall Reception”, she said.

For most of her life, Jean lived in Denistone and Epping. For the last ten years, Shalom has been her home.

Jean spent her working life as a ledger keeper, and throughout her life she enjoyed sport, playing tennis, scoring at the cricket and was the president of the Beecroft Bowling Club. Jean and Bert loved to travel and together they travelled overseas many times. Together Bert and Jean had three children and Jean now has six grandchildren.

We asked Jean some questions on the occasion of this milestone event.
