The residents from BaptistCare Aminya Retirement Village enjoyed a taste of sea life with the broadcast of a live, interactive underwater event.
Fourteen delighted Aminya Retirement Village residents experienced a live underwater exploration recently, thanks to the team at Submerged Entertainment Australia (SEA).
With live commentary, the residents witnessed blissful underwater scenes including an exploration of Lake King in Victoria, where a robotic arm was used to retrieve a sample. The session also included an exploration of Bateman’s Bay in New South Wales, and finally ‘diving’ into a droplet of water under a digital microscope from the sample taken from Lake King.
The live underwater scenes were streamed from a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to an online conference platform at the Village and projected onto a screen.
“I was inspired by the underwater explorations, I felt like I was really there!” said an Aminya Village resident.
A student from Macquarie University also attended the session to conduct observations examining the impact of the event on resident wellbeing, as part of a research study. The university student took detailed notes during the event, documenting the gestures, facial expressions and body language of the residents. The residents also completed post-event surveys as part of the research study.
The residents at BaptistCare Aminya also participated in the interactive underwater event earlier this month as part of a trial to see how these kinds of events impact aged care resident wellbeing, with the possibility of future events.
“Using the latest ROV technology, our residents can benefit from exploring underwater locations around Australia. To be able to impact their wellbeing in such a positive way really does support living well,” says Petrina Greenwood, Innovation Manager.
