Aged home care is an incredibly rewarding field of work, with the opportunity to connect with older people in the community, listen to their stories and find out what they love, and help them to live the best life possible in their own home.
It’s the perfect time to begin your journey in home care regardless of your age or background, with the Fair Work Commission recently awarding a significant pay rise to all Australian aged care workers.
What is a home care worker?
A home care worker provides support and care for older people in their homes, assisting with everyday tasks, and providing companionship. A carer might help an elderly client with things like:
- Domestic duties like cooking and cleaning
- Sharing stories and lending a caring ear
- Washing and getting dressed
- Assisting with transportation to and from medical appointments.
Home care workers might visit several clients in one day and may be required to drive them to various social activities, or pick up some shopping on their behalf. The days are full, varied and satisfying, knowing you are making a genuine difference to someone’s life.
What can I expect from the information session?
Come along and enjoy afternoon tea with us, whilst learning what to expect as a home care worker. Throughout the session we will cover:
- A day in the life of a home care worker
- The hours – have you got other commitments like the school run? Learn how you can work flexibly around them
- The rate of pay, including information about the Fair Work Commission’s pay rise for aged care workers
- Full support and training.
- Meet a client and their care worker - hear how we are making a difference in someone's life
