George* wanted to find love. He had gained confidence and learned to live independently with support, and now he was ready to take the next step, meeting the woman of his dreams.
As a car enthusiast, avid key collector, and active member of his community, George’s life was full of curiosity and passion. But something was still missing. With guidance from his Support Worker from Baptist Care SA, he enrolled in Date-Ability, a telehealth course to help NDIS participants develop healthy, meaningful relationships.
While he didn’t find romance, George walked away with something just as meaningful; a true friendship.
The 12-week educational program, delivered by a team of psychologists and sexologists, gave George a safe and inclusive space to learn about personal boundaries and respectful connections.
The newfound self-awareness and social skills he honed from Date-Ability gave him the confidence to reach out to a colleague, as a friend. Now, they catch up for coffee and lunch regularly and the genuine connection has become a cherished part of his life. George receives tailored support in his Supported Independent Living (SIL) home with choice and control across all areas of his life, from cooking and cleaning to engaging in his community.
Guided by his personal goals, this support helps George continue to learn, grow, and feel respected, just as he did throughout his Date-Ability experience. For George, this has opened his world up to more social connections and he has shown real personal growth. He’s become more thoughtful in his interactions with others and built a friendship he truly values.
