It was only a few months ago that the doors of our shiny new home care office opened up in Orange, NSW, and yet the BaptistCare at home team is already making a significant impact within the community.

BaptistCare social club clients were recently treated to a very special lunch at the local Orange Ex-services club, paid for by a generous donation from the local Country Women’s Association (CWA).

After connecting with the BaptistCare at home team at our launch event in September, Branch President of the Orange CWA, Deborah Marr, said the Association was so impressed with what BaptistCare was doing for the Orange community that they wanted to donate $200 towards the Orange social club’s Christmas party.

With such a generous donation, the ten social club members were able to enjoy a beautiful lunch together, and for some, it was the first time they had eaten out since the COVID-19 lockdowns of 2020.

BaptistCare Care Facilitator, Mikayla, took pride in taking the group out for the afternoon and said it was a moving and memorable occasion for many.

“It was wonderful to see some of our clients really come to life and enjoy themselves,” she said.

“They are a very chatty group and enjoyed being able to get to know members who they may not have met on the days they usually attend social club.”

Much of the conversation over lunch centred around appreciation and gratitude for the new social club in Orange and what a difference it has made in their lives, even after the few short months it has been open.

“Some of the women have become widows in recent years,” Mikayla shared. “Many of them expressed how nice it was to spend time with like-minded people at a similar stage of life, and the joy of creating new friendships. The social club has become a new focal point in their lives – it’s wonderful to see.”

BaptistCare clients said their family members have been thrilled to see them thriving through the social club. One client, Dot, has four grandchildren and said that she loves sharing with them what she’s been up to on the days she attends social club.

Activities might range from singing and craft sessions to a delicious picnic or excursion to a local place of interest.

“We’ve only been open a short time,” says Mikayla. “But we’re thrilled to see the impact our services are already making in the community and excited to see what 2024 brings.”
