Residents at Baptistcare’s William Carey Court in Busselton are now on the move in grand style thanks to a generous grant of $49,665 from Lotterywest.

Baptistcare and Lotterywest joined forces to purchase the new $65,400 Toyota Commuter ten-seater bus and a hoist, suitable for outings and trips around Busselton for all residents, including those with mobility issues.

Baptistcare William Carey Court Lifestyle Coordinator, Roslyn McDonald said the new vehicle can transport 10 people at a time to local beaches, shopping centres, concerts, plays and other events.

“It is important to keep people in touch with their local community and outings are always popular with everyone.”

“Baptistcare William Carey Court also has two wings dedicated to dementia enrichment living and we have seen the benefits of bus trips which incorporate scenic drives to places with meaning or memories from a senior’s younger days,” Roslyn said.

“Familiar places can un-tap memories once thought lost and it is rewarding to see our people respond to a place or a location.”

Roslyn said Baptistcare provides programs in residential care facilities designed to keep people motivated, interested in life and connected to their families and communities.

“We are always looking for new ways to keep the people in our care happy and healthy, and being able to take them out for a few hours regularly has such a positive effect on everyone involved,” she said.
