Sarah Ford believes creating a unique sense of family is one of the most important aspects of providing quality residential aged care.
So, it’s no wonder she is relishing her role as Residential Care Manager at Baptistcare Morrison Gardens Residential Care in Midland.
“The staff go above and beyond for all of the seniors who call Morrison Gardens home, and the care and love shared across the facility is evident,” she said.
“I feel fortunate to have joined a team that is passionate and genuine about making each day fulfilling and enriched for everyone in their care.”
The opportunity to make a difference in the lives of older Western Australians is a key reason Sarah entered the aged care sector nine years ago.
“Care is, of course, about keeping people healthy and safe, but it is also about helping people pursue their hobbies, socialise with others, and enjoy life.
“There is nothing more rewarding than putting a smile on someone’s face,” she said.
Sarah has spent her first few weeks at Baptistcare Morrison Gardens getting to know each of the residents and learning what they love about their home on the doorstep of the Swan Valley.
“Overwhelmingly residents have said they want to remain connected to family, friends, and the community. So this year, we will be looking at introducing even more social events and activities into our program,” she said.
“That includes expanding our dedicated community volunteers who come from all walks of life and bring joy and companionship through their visits.”
Many of Morrison Gardens’ residents are fond of spending time in the facility’s grounds, so Sarah is especially keen to recruit some local ‘green thumbs’ to the volunteer team.
“If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty and can contribute your gardening knowledge, we would love to hear from you,” she said.
