Connect Grant transforming West Ryde

BaptistCare Connect Grants of up to $10,000 assist churches to engage with their local community to enhance the well-being of the community.

In June 2020, West Ryde Community Church successfully applied for a Connect Grant to assist them in better meeting the needs of people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds living in the local area. Over 47% of the people living near the church were born overseas.

The church had participated in a Community Engagement Design Lab, a collaborative program between Seed, BaptistCare and the Baptist Churches of NSW/ACT. The Design Lab helped the church recognise and identify the local needs in its community: a deep need for CALD community members to access a safe and welcoming place, where they can meet together, learn, grow, and build connection.

The church will use the Connect Grant to employ a Community Engagement Coordinator on a part-time basis, who will assist the church to intentionally connect with the local community. They will also provide advocacy for marginalised and vulnerable community members, helping them access essential services and support.

BaptistCare is proud to be a part of the transforming work of West Ryde Community Church.
