In February 2020 our Carer Respite and Carelink Centre (CRCC) team took 56 Young Carers and their families to Taronga Zoo in Sydney, to experience the Roar and Snore program.
They had the full overnight glamping experience, waking to spectacular views of Sydney Harbour and the novel sounds of zoo life.
For one mum and her two boys, Roar and Snore was a special family experience.
“We had an incredible time and had so much fun together. We never usually do things like this, so this was a very special getaway for us.”
Young carers take on a range of responsibilities around the house like domestic chores and personal care and carry a load beyond their years.
“Any opportunity to bring relief or simple joy to these special carers makes a significant difference," said Sarah Newman, General Manager, BaptistCare at home.
The outing for our Young Carers was one of the last programs that our CRCC was involved in. Sadly, we farewelled our CRCC team this year after 23 years and support for over 20,000 carers, due to the program being moved to the Federal Government’s new Carer Gateway where it will be operated by another organisation.
