BaptistCare’s person-centered care and relational approach, MyTeam™, continued to roll out across our homes during the financial year, with 16 of our 18 homes successfully implementing the care model.
Our new approach has at its core resident choice and control to ensure residents are at the centre of all we do.
One of the key changes we have implemented has been consistent assignment rostering, which sees residents and their families supported by the same employees for every shift they work. The consistency of rostering has brought noticeable benefits to our customers, with one resident explaining that getting to know the carers makes such a difference. “I am more comfortable with less carers.”
Our staff have also experienced the benefits of MyTeam™ in our homes, with staff sharing that they can take more time with residents because they are more familiar with individual routines. “I like coming to work each day, and residents tell us more things, for example if something is troubling them.”
A second stage of MyTeam™ began implementation in June 2020 and is ongoing, focusing on two aspects. These include a Consumer Engagement Framework that invites residents and stakeholders to contribute to decisions regarding their lifestyle and experience of living in the home, and a new dining experience, offering flexible breakfast times or buffet options to residents so they can choose when to enjoy their first meal of the day.
