During the COVID-19 health crisis, we found ourselves facing one of the biggest challenges in BaptistCare history. As the first aged care provider to experience an outbreak in March 2020, we quickly learned and shared with the aged care sector and government the difficulty in sourcing staff when all staff at a home are required to self-isolate.
With our entire team at Dorothy Henderson Lodge in Macquarie Park required to self-isolate due to the COVID-19 outbreak at this time, we sent out an organisation wide call for help, asking staff from across BaptistCare to step up and support our precious residents at Dorothy Henderson Lodge.
The response was humbling. Over 100 of our staff from across NSW and the ACT, many trained in aged care, put up their hand and said “I’ll help.” These people became known as our “DHL Heroes”.
These heroes worked tirelessly, often going for days without rest, to ensure residents were well cared for and supported, modelling true servant leadership.
Our thanks, admiration and gratefulness go to the many staff across our Residential and Home Services teams who were part of the response who worked tirelessly during this difficult period.
