The Australian Government is changing in-home care to help you live independently at home for longer.
The Support at Home (SaH) program begins on 1 November. It will replace the Home Care Packages (HCP) Program and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) Program. Support at Home is part of the new Aged Care Act, which puts the rights of older people first.
What is Support at Home?
Support at Home (SaH) provides government funding for both ongoing and short term support to help you live in your home for longer.

What care and support can I receive?
There are three main categories for ongoing care under Support at Home
🌿 Independence
Support to manage activities of daily living and loss of skills or function to live independently
🧺 Everyday Living
Support to keep your home in a liveable state and support your independence at home
💙 Clinical Support
Specialised services to maintain or regain functional and/or cognitive capabilities

5 simple steps to accessing Home Care
Step 1. Register
To register, call the government service, My Aged Care service on 1800 200 422 or visit them online at www.myagedcare.gov.au.
Step 2. Be Assessed
A My Aged Care assessor from the Single Assessment Service (SAS) will either discuss your situation over the phone or come to your home to assess the level of assistance you need.
Step 3. Wait for funding
Support at Home funding can take several months to be allocated an the waiting period is different for everyone. BaptistCare can still support you with privately funded services during this time.
Step 4. Choose a provider
Once your home care funding comes through, you will receive a letter saying that your classification has been assigned. Now you can choose a provider such as BaptistCare.
Step 5. Choose how to use your funding
Now you can decide how you would like to use your Home Care funding. Remember, you have complete control over what services you choose.
Available short term supports under Support at Home
Support at Home offers three Short Term pathways:
Support at Home Funding & Fees
Government subsidies for home care are now calculated on a quarterly basis, rather than on a daily basis.
Support at Home also has 8 new funding classifications for ongoing services and 4 classifications for people transitioning from the Home Care Package program.
A person's classification and budget will be determined based on their needs.
