Baptistcare is proud to present 'Demystifying Aged Care', a podcast which shines a light on the ageing journey.

Legendary broadcaster, Graham Mabury, who hosted Perth’s hugely popular 6PR Nightline for 33 years, is out of radio retirement and back behind the microphone. But this time he’s using his unique ability to thoughtfully explore issues and help people tell their stories through the modern medium of podcasting.

Graham is examining the ageing journey and the experience of those who have found themselves navigating Australia’s complex aged care system in a series called Demystifying Aged Care produced by Baptistcare.

The Demystifying Aged Care podcast tackles a range of topics around the emotional, physical, spiritual and financial aspects of ageing with experts and seniors and their families contributing advice, personal experiences and thought-provoking commentary.

Graham said he is enjoying his first foray into podcasting and welcomed the opportunity to take a deeper look into the experiences and decisions everyone will eventually face as they enter the later stages of life.

“There has been a lot of media coverage around aged care, but I was keen to gain new perspectives and stimulate more considered community discussion,” he said.

“Everybody’s ageing journey is different, and it was a privilege to hear people’s deeply personal stories about the unexpected joys and challenges we can face as we grow older,” he said.

“We also spoke to experts such as renowned dementia researcher, Professor Ralph Martins AO, and independent financial planner, Nick Bruining, so the podcast provides plenty of practical information and advice too.”

Series one, which is now live on all major podcast apps, examines topics such as accessing home care, dementia, planning for retirement, volunteering, what it’s like to live in residential aged care, and the concept of dying well.

Series one guests include:

  • Nick Bruining (The West Australian)
  • Professor Ralph Martins AO (Australian Alzheimer’s Research Foundation)
  • Lana Glogowski (Palliative Care WA)
  • Baptistcare customers, residents and their loved ones
  • Baptistcare employees and volunteers
