Male residents in care facilities are often reluctant to join in social activities, however many enjoy social interaction with other men so Baptistcare have dedicated men’s groups at our facilities. These groups aim to keep men physically and mentally healthy.
At Baptistcare Gracehaven Residential Aged Care in Rockingham, male residents, volunteers and employees get together every Wednesday and enjoy a game of pool. The group is an effective way for the men to regularly connect with each other in an informal setting.
As well as the weekly men’s group, male residents, volunteers and employees meet each Friday for a walk in Rockingham’s HMAS Warramunga Park. Everyone enjoys the opportunity to socialise in the beautiful park surrounds.“Having the Men’s Group is great, I enjoy going to that and look forward to it each week. My favourite part is being able to socialise with just the blokes!” said resident Stan.
Baptistcare Gracehaven Facility Manager Mark Backhouse highlighted that men’s health is an important issue, not only in aged care but the broader community as well.
“In the past I think the Aussie way was to think, ‘she’ll be right’, avoid the doctors and get on with things. However, things are changing and it’s great to see a focus on men’s health and promoting wellbeing for men,” he explained.
Baptistcare is dedicated to ensuring the physical, emotional and social wellbeing of each and every resident at our residential care facilities.
