A series of spiritual care workshops for Baptistcare volunteers and members of the local community is currently being conducted at our residential care facilities.

The training aims to provide quality spiritual care which addresses people’s need for meaning, purpose and connectedness as they get older and experience major life changes such as decline in health, potential disconnection from community, and the passing of friends and family.

Developed by Aged Care Channel in collaboration with aged care experts and organisations, including Meaningful Ageing Australia, BaptCare Victoria, BaptistCare NSW & ACT and theologian Professor John Swinton, the course is offered to all people volunteering or looking to get involved as a spiritual care volunteer at Baptistcare’s residential care facilities.

“Delivering this training for our volunteers will ensure they are able to effectively support our residents, as well as other older people in the community, in a hopeful and compassionate context,” explained Wade Sinclair, Baptistcare’s Manager Chaplains.

CEO Russell Bricknell believes providing quality spiritual care to aged care residents and elderly people is a priority.

“It’s very important for us to all work together to support older people at critical times in their lives,” Russell said.

“We hope these workshops equip our volunteers and community members with the skills and knowledge to engage with people in a way that is empathetic and meaningful.”
