Together with her family and friends at Baptistcare Morrison Gardens residential care, beloved resident Nora celebrated her 106th birthday.

Nora was born in 1915 in Flagmount, County Clare, South Ireland. Born into a farming family, Nora was one of nine children! The family farmed all their own food and traded at market for other goods they needed.

At the age of 25, Nora left Ireland, moving to London. She worked in a restaurant, where she met her late husband, Ronald. Together, Nora and Ron had a daughter, Elizabeth.

For over 20 years, Nora worked as a nanny/housekeeper for Toby Robins, a film actress who appeared in many British television shows, as well as a few of the James Bond movies! Nora loved her work with Toby’s family, and they loved her too – on all formal occasions she was treated as a member of the family. Due to the nature of Toby’s job, and Nora’s closeness with the family, she met many famous people over the years, and obtained autographs for her daughter when she could!

Nora and Ron lived together in London for over 50 years, and after Ron passed away, Nora decided to move to Australia to be closer to her daughter, who was living in Perth. She lived in the Perth Hills with her daughter and family for the next 15 years, and after many medicals and forms, became an Australian Permanent Resident at the age of 87.

Nora had always been an avid traveller, and even after moving to Australia, visited her family in her homeland of Ireland many times over the years following. She is quick to tell the story of her 25th wedding anniversary, spent on the island of Barbados, and her most loved vacation to Italy, where she enjoyed the sunshine, the food, and a “wee drop of the creature” – Irish slang for a shot of whiskey.

Her advice for a long life is “a little and the best”, saying to eat in moderation and to enjoy a “wee tipple of brandy” every evening before dinner.

From all your friends at Baptistcare, we wish you a very happy 106th birthday Nora!
