Volunteer singers visiting Baptistcare Gracehaven Residential Care facility in Rockingham recently delighted residents with their talent and enthusiasm.

Leading off with ‘Amazing Grace’, the residents’ faces lit up as they were encouraged to join in. One of the volunteers, who is just six years of age, said a prayer for the residents and the visit ended with a cheerful rendition of ‘You Are My Sunshine’.

Baptistcare are fortunate to have nearly 300 committed volunteers who generously donate their time and talents, making a real difference to the many residents and individuals who form part of the Baptistcare community. There is no set volunteer role, instead Baptistcare encourages each volunteer to choose an activity which appeals to them so they can support residents with genuine passion and interest.

Judith Don, Baptistcare’s General Manager Aged Care Services, said our experience with intergenerational activities involving people with dementia confirms the benefits proven in research.

“Mixing with younger people provides our residents with a sense of community connectedness and provides opportunities for meaningful engagement, essential for self-esteem and positive wellbeing”.
