Diamond painting is the hottest craft craze on the planet and Rockingham local Pam Reynolds is one of its devotees.

The keen crafter who calls Baptistcare Gracehaven residential care home spends hours each week on diamond painting, where she creates beautiful works of art with hundreds of tiny sparkling stones.

Diamond painting is an enjoyable artistic hobby which keeps your brain, fingers and eyes stimulated and healthy.

There are hundreds of different templates to choose from, ranging from small and simple to larger, more complex canvases. Diamond painting involves scooping up coloured ‘gems’ with a unique applicator tool and wax, and placing them on a colour-coded adhesive canvas.

Completed pieces are visually dazzling with light bouncing off the colourful ‘diamonds’.

Pam first discovered diamond painting when her friend Chrissy Rutherford gifted her a beautiful picture of a water lily.

“I was hooked from that moment,” Pam said.

“It is so much fun, and a great way to relieve stress and keep your mind active.”

Diamond painting was first created for adults and children with anxiety. It is credited with improving concentration and providing an excellent workout for hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

Pam’s artworks have inspired several Baptistcare Gracehaven employees, who have now bought diamond art kits from Chrissy’s market stall.

Chrissy has also become a Baptistcare Gracehaven volunteer and visits Pam regularly.

Pam is currently working on her most ambitious diamond painting to date, a large canvas of two of her grandchildren, Finn and Keelin, her daughter Meredith and son-in-law Luke.

A picture Pam completed of the children last year was gifted to the family as a Christmas present. It took two months to complete and has pride of place on their living room wall.
