There were plenty of smiles and lots of lively chatter when the Manjimup Scouts Group visited residents at Baptistcare Moonya Residential Care in Manjimup.

The group spent a couple of hours chatting with residents and sharing stories. There was plenty of reminiscing and reading aloud, plus card games and board games.

Suzette Starling, Lifestyle Coordinator at Baptistcare Moonya Residential Care, said residents loved spending time with young people and looked forward to the Scouts’ visits in particular.

“The sessions are always filled with lots of smiles and chatter, and it’s so great to see the two generations spending time together,” Ms Starling said.

“For residents, the visits represent an important connection to the community, as well as being another opportunity to meet new faces and spend time doing the activities they enjoy.”

The visits are supervised by Scout Leaders and Therapy Assistant Gabriel Barber (a former Scout and coordinator of the initiative) and can count towards earning a Scouts community badge.

The Scouts are becoming regular visitors at Baptistcare Moonya, dropping by once a term as part of the facility’s thriving community network.
