BaptistCare is here to help people find new ways to live better. We strive to enrich lives through communities of care, creating active connections and expanding horizons wherever we can, especially through leisure and lifestyle initiatives. Such as at BaptistCare Maranoa Residential Aged Care community where we’re excited to announce the launch of BaptistCare Maranoa’s Tea, Tech and Talk Entertainment Lounge (the Lounge) located in northern NSW.
At a Consumer Advisory Body meeting, long term member and Maranoa resident, Margaret suggested creating a space where locals could gather, learn, and connect with others, supported by technology and caring staff.
The Lounge features computer stations for web browsing, watching videos, or listening to music, perfect for Margaret’s passion for ancestry research and DNA exploration. There are also printers for creative projects and tablets loaded with popular games and puzzles for everyone to enjoy.

Launch day was a resounding success, with people living in the community gathering for afternoon tea, and Margaret, alongside her family, being honoured with a plaque of recognition.
The Lounge aims to boost social connection by encouraging technology use in shared spaces, promoting digital inclusion and enabling more inclusive group activities.
There are many positive elements to digital literacy. Learning to navigate new technologies can stimulate brain health, as it often requires problem-solving and memory recall. Digital literacy also empowers older adults to maintain their independence, avoid social isolation and access essential services. As banks, governments and healthcare providers transition heavily to online platforms, seniors equipped with these skills can confidently manage their day-to-day affairs, monitor their health and stay connected with loved ones.
Digital literacy can also combat loneliness and social isolation, particularly for those seniors who may face mobility challenges or live far from family. It can also serve as a gateway to community engagement.
We hope to build on the success of Maranoa’s Tea, Tech and Talk Entertainment Lounge by developing a guide for other Residential Aged Care communities to create their own entertainment lounges and keep fostering joy and connection across BaptistCare.
