The first step is registering with My Aged Care, the Australian Government’s aged care service. You can do this by calling on 1800 200 422 or visiting www.myagedcare.gov.au
If you’re unsure where to start, BaptistCare is here to help. Our friendly team can answer questions, explain the process and help you feel more confident navigating the aged care system.
Please call us on 1300 275 227 (Monday to Friday, from 8:00am to 6:00pm) or enquire online below.
Next, a My Aged Care assessor will take time to understand the level of support you need, either over the phone or by visiting you in your home.
If you’re looking for some basic or short-term help with things like housework, personal care or shopping, you may be approved for funded support through the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP).
If your needs are more complex, you may be approved for a Support at Home (SaH) budget, with funding classifications ranging from 1 to 8, depending on the level of support you require. Additional short-term funding pathways may also be available for things like recovering after illness or making changes to your home.
While you’re waiting for funding, we can also support you with a wide range of private home care services.
Your Support at Home funding, or ‘budget’, can take some time to be finalised, but there are ways to start receiving support while you wait. In some cases, you may also be offered interim Support at Home funding, allowing you to begin receiving some services before your full budget is allocated.
BaptistCare can often start delivering services to you via the Commonwealth Home Support Program while you wait for your Support at Home budget to be finalised.
We also offer a wide selection of tailor-made, private Home Care services.
Once your Support at Home budget has been approved and assigned, you’ll receive a letter from My Aged Care confirming your funding. From there, you can choose a provider such as BaptistCare to deliver your services and support at home.
Our team will take the time to understand what matters most to you and help tailor services around your lifestyle, routines and goals. We’ll also guide you through the paperwork and next steps, making the process feel simpler, clearer and more manageable.
Working with your dedicated Care Facilitator, you can take your time and choose the home care services that are most important to you. This will likely involve a multi-skilled care team, such as physiotherapists, registered nurses, or gardeners.
Your Care Facilitator will then assist with the set-up and ongoing management of your services. Down the track, if your needs change, we can support you and your family to access additional support, so you can be confident that you’re always receiving the best possible care to help you live life on your terms.
If you would like to know more, please complete the form and one of our home care specialists will be in touch.
