How to Access Home Care

Step 1. Register

To register, call the government service, My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or visit them online at www.myagedcare.gov.au

Our friendly team at BaptistCare are also on hand to support you if you have questions about navigating the My Aged Care system. Please call us on 1300 275 227 (Monday to Friday, from 8:00am to 6:00pm) or enquire online below.

Step 2. Be Assessed

Next, a My Aged Care assessor will assess the level of assistance you need – they’ll do this via a phone call or by coming to visit you in your home.

If you just need some basic or short term home care assistance with things like looking after your housework, personal care, or shopping, you may be approved for funded help via the Commonwealth Home Support Program.

If your needs are more complex, you will be approved for a Support at Home budget with a classification between 1 and 8 - classification 8 catering to the highest level of need.

There are also short-term funding pathways available for specific situations - such as recovering after illness or making changes to your home - which can be accessed alongside Support at Home funding if needed.

While you are waiting for your Support at Home budget, or if you are not eligible for funding, we can also support you with a wide range of private Home Care services.

Step 3. Wait for funding

Your Support at Home funding, or ‘budget’, can take some time to be finalised, but there are ways to start receiving support while you wait. In some cases, you may also be offered interim Support at Home funding, allowing you to begin receiving some services before your full budget is allocated.

BaptistCare can often start delivering services to you via the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) while you wait for your Support at Home budget to be finalised.

We also offer a wide selection of tailor-made, private Home Care services. Browse our current price guide here.

Step 4. Choose a provider

Once your Support at Home budget comes through, you will receive a letter saying your package has been ‘assigned’.

Now you can choose a provider such as BaptistCare to deliver your Home Care Services - we can manage all the paperwork from there.

Step 5. Choose how to use your Support at Home budget

Working with your dedicated Care Facilitator, you can take your time and choose the home care services that are most important to you. This will likely involve a multi-skilled care team, such as physiotherapists, registered nurses, or gardeners.

Your Care Facilitator will then assist with the set-up and ongoing management of your services. Down the track, if your needs change, we can support you and your family to access additional support, so you can be confident that you’re always receiving the best possible care to help you live life on your terms.
