BaptistCare Retirement Village: First time’s a charm

Tom and Eileen Vimson only looked at one retirement village before they knew where they wanted to be. They moved into BaptistCare Angus Bristow on 24^th August. “We didn’t have to look further. We came here first. It was close to family, and it was quiet, peaceful, open. It just felt right. A couple of weeks later, this apartment was being refurbished and available. We liked the feel of it, and that was it,” said Eileen.

Since moving in the couple have done more in the last few months than in the last couple of years. “We’re meeting new people every day. You can do activities, but no one forces you to. We pick and choose. We walk a lot. We head over to the golf course clubhouse for lunch every fortnight,” said Tom.

“We very much like it here. Everyone’s so friendly, and the staff are just fantastic, we can’t fault it at all.”

Moving from a cul-de-sac community, Eileen and Tom were ready for peace and quiet. “There were a lot of renters, children, and dogs barking; at this point in our lives, we’d just had enough. We came here and felt the vibes, and wanted to stay,” said Eileen.

Tom and Eileen moved out to Australia 12 years ago. Tom was in the UK police force until he retired at 50, then he worked in the courts for a number of years. “Our son had graduated from university and met an Australian girl so we knew they would eventually come here to live. They got married here but settled in the UK. Our first grandchild was born there,” said Tom.

Once the family did move, visits every ten months were not enough to keep up with grandchildren growing and being born.

Christmas will see Eileen and Tom surrounded by family. ‘They live close by, we get to see family quite a bit. It’s lovely and so relaxing,” said Tom.

“Everything has fallen into place, from selling the house in a couple of days to a seamless move. The staff at BaptistCare Angus Bristow Retirement Village have gone out of their way and that extra mile to help us feel settled,” said Eileen.
