Kyralee Shields is a proud Darug and Darkinjung woman, and is the artist who painted the acrylic artwork, 'Gimbawali', which is displayed in our community centre at Gimbawali Place.
"Our culture and heritage is a mixture of beautiful, ancient traditions, strong connections to land and our people," said Kyralee.
"Embracing my Indigenous heritage is so important to me because my grandmother lost five children to the Stolen Generations including my mother."

Gimbawali is a Dharug word from the Dharug people, the traditional custodians of the land in Carlingford. We value the engagement we continue to have with members and elders of the Dharug community, both now and throughout the building and naming process.
'Gimbawali' means stars/light/guiding home.
The three interlinked buildings at Gimbawali are named: 'Yudi' (to escort/or to see home), 'Birrung' (stars) and 'Nura' (country).
Together they mean: ‘Everyone is welcome, under the stars, on Country’.
