Everybody can be asked to pay the Basic Daily Fee, but not every provider chooses to charge it.
The amount is set by the government, and currently stands between 15.6% and 17.5% of the single basic age pension, depending on your Home Care Package level.
The Fee changes in March and September each year in line with the age pension. You can view the current rates, here.
If you are paying a basic daily fee, you will pay this directly to your provider, and it will be added to your overall ‘pot’ of annual home care funds.
This is a contribution to your home care package, which is only applicable to people with an annual income above $32,331.00.
The Fee will be deducted from the total amount of your government subsidy.
The total amount of your income tested care fee depends on your annual income and the assets you own. The easiest way to find out how much this could be is via the government’s fee estimator.
If you are required to pay an income tested care fee, an annual and lifetime cap applies – the amount of each cap will depend on what you earned in the year.
